LAMDA stands for London Academy of Music and Dramatic Art. A LAMDA exam is the speech and drama equivalent of a music grade, which begin at basic levels and culminates at Grade 8.
LAMDA’s communication examinations provide the opportunity to develop a clear speaking voice, positive body language and self-confidence by exploring different uses of spoken English.
LAMDA’s performance examinations use drama to develop self-confidence, physical presence and a strong speaking voice. LAMDA Graded Examinations in Performance: Acting are designed to develop the skills necessary to communicate dramatic text to an audience.
Skill Training
- Interpretative skills – Explore style, form, character, subtext and context in order to realise the specific demands of the text, engage with character and situation in order to create a sense of reality.
- Technical skills – Develop skills in voice, diction and movement.
- Knowledge of the performance process.
- Lamda Medal level exams carry UCAS Points which will benefit university applications. For example a Grade 8 Lamda exam result at Distinction level, carries 30 UCAS Points. Employers will often look for Drama/Lamda on a CV as it demonstrates excellent communication skills, team work, confidence & creativity.
